Carrier Support for PDF Files in MMS
Section titled “Carrier Support for PDF Files in MMS”PDF is an accepted file type for SIPSTACK MMS — SIPSTACK will accept and forward PDF attachments to the mobile carrier network, provided the file meets the carrier’s size limit. However, SIPSTACK does not resize or modify the PDF before transmission.
Carrier Support for PDF
Section titled “Carrier Support for PDF”PDF is not supported via long code MMS on the following networks:
- Fido (Canada)
- Rogers (Canada)
- Telus (Canada)
- AT&T (US)
When you send a PDF attachment to a subscriber on one of these carriers, the attachment will not reach the device. The recipient will receive the body text of your message (if included) followed by:
“One or more of the message components have been deleted by MMS Adaptation. Either the message was too large or the components were unsuitable for your handset.”
Why PDF Support Is Limited for Long Code MMS
Section titled “Why PDF Support Is Limited for Long Code MMS”Long code MMS is treated as a person-to-person (P2P) channel by most carriers in Canada and the US. Carrier network policies for P2P MMS are more restrictive than for short code MMS, and PDF support has not been extended to the long code channel by these carriers. SIPSTACK is not aware of any announced plans to change this.
File Size Recommendation
Section titled “File Size Recommendation”Ensure your PDF files are well under the maximum attachment size of the destination network before sending. Oversized files will be dropped even on networks that otherwise support PDFs.
