Stripe Connect Setup
Stripe Connect Setup
Section titled “Stripe Connect Setup”SIPSTACK uses Stripe Connect to deliver partner payouts. Before you can receive commissions, you need to complete a one-time onboarding process that connects your bank account to the SIPSTACK platform.
How It Works
Section titled “How It Works”SIPSTACK is the platform. When you complete Stripe Connect onboarding, Stripe creates an Express account linked to SIPSTACK. This is not a full Stripe account — it is a lightweight connected account managed by the platform. You do not need an existing Stripe account to get started.
Funds flow like this:
- A customer pays their SIPSTACK invoice
- SIPSTACK receives the payment
- Your commission is calculated and transferred to your connected account
- Stripe deposits the funds to your bank per their standard payout schedule (typically 2 business days)
Setting Up Stripe Connect
Section titled “Setting Up Stripe Connect”- Log into the Partner Portal in Switchboard
- Open the Payout Setup page (the setup prompt on your Dashboard links there while Connect is not yet configured)
- Click Set up payout account
- You will be redirected to Stripe’s hosted onboarding form
On Stripe’s form, you will provide:
| Information | Why It’s Needed |
|---|---|
| Legal business name | For tax and compliance verification |
| Business address | Stripe requires this for identity verification |
| Tax ID / SSN / SIN | Required by Stripe for identity and compliance verification |
| Bank account details | Where your payouts will be deposited |
| Identity verification | Photo ID may be required depending on your jurisdiction |
- After completing the form, you are redirected back to your Partner Portal
- Stripe reviews your information (usually instant, sometimes takes 1-2 business days)
Connect Status
Section titled “Connect Status”Your Stripe Connect status is displayed on the Partner Dashboard. Here is what each status means:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Not Started | You have not begun the onboarding process |
| Onboarding | You started the Stripe form but have not completed it |
| Pending | Stripe is reviewing your submitted information |
| Active | Your account is verified and ready to receive payouts |
| Suspended | Stripe has paused your account (usually a compliance issue — contact support) |
| Deactivated | Your connected account has been deactivated |
Resuming Incomplete Onboarding
Section titled “Resuming Incomplete Onboarding”If you started the Stripe onboarding but did not finish:
- Return to the Payout Setup page in the Partner Portal (the onboarding link from your Dashboard)
- Click Continue setup
- You will be taken back to the Stripe form where you left off
Stripe remembers your progress — you do not need to re-enter information you already submitted.
Payout Timing
Section titled “Payout Timing”Once your Connect account is active, payout timing depends on your partner type:
| Partner Type | When You Get Paid |
|---|---|
| Channel Partner | Instantly with each client payment (destination charge split) |
| Affiliate | Monthly batch on the 1st of the month |
After Stripe processes the transfer, funds arrive in your bank account per Stripe’s standard schedule — typically 2 business days for most banks.
Tax Reporting
Section titled “Tax Reporting”Annual tax reporting depends on your jurisdiction:
- Canada: SIPSTACK issues a T4A slip (Box 048 — fees for services) each year to Canadian partners paid more than $500 in commissions. If you are GST/HST registered, SIPSTACK also self-bills you a Recipient-Created Tax Invoice (RCTI) per period — see Tax & Invoicing.
- United States / other non-resident partners: SIPSTACK does not issue a 1099 or other slip — report the income under your own jurisdiction’s rules and consult your tax advisor.
Make sure your tax registration details are filled in on Settings → Tax so payouts and year-end reporting are handled correctly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Section titled “Frequently Asked Questions”Do I need an existing Stripe account? No. Stripe Connect creates a lightweight Express account for you. You do not need to sign up for Stripe separately.
Can I change my bank account later? Yes. Contact SIPSTACK support and we will send you a new onboarding link to update your payout details.
What currencies are supported? Payouts are issued in the same currency as the customer’s invoice — either CAD or USD. If you have managed customers in both currencies, you will receive separate transfers for each.
What if my Stripe Connect account is suspended? Contact SIPSTACK support immediately. Suspensions are typically triggered by Stripe’s compliance checks and can usually be resolved by providing additional documentation.
