E911 Alert Error Codes

When someone dials 911, SIPSTACK alerts the notification recipients set on the location by email and text message. Each alert is recorded on the location’s Audit tab. If an alert could not be delivered, the row shows Failed with the reason and an error code, such as (Error E911-201).

A failed alert never affects the 911 call itself. The call is still routed to emergency services.

The codes are grouped by where the alert stopped:

  • E911-2xx: the alert was sent, but it did not reach the recipient.
  • E911-9xx: a problem on our side. The alert was not sent.
CodeMeaningWhat you can do
E911-201: Text message not deliveredThe alert text message was sent, but it could not be delivered to this phone number.Check that this number is a mobile phone that can receive text messages, then send it a test alert. Adding an email recipient as well means the alert still reaches someone if a text cannot be delivered.
E911-901: Temporary service problemWe could not send this alert because of a temporary problem on our side. The alert was not sent.Check that the recipient is entered correctly, then send it a test alert. If it keeps happening, contact support with this code.

If an error keeps happening, open a ticket and include:

  • the error code,
  • the recipient that failed,
  • the time shown on the alert.

The code tells our team where the alert stopped, so they can find the cause quickly.
