Leaving SIPSTACK
Leaving SIPSTACK
Section titled “Leaving SIPSTACK”If you’re moving to another provider, the order matters: move your numbers first, then cancel. Cancelling first puts every number you haven’t moved on a path to release.
If you only want to move some numbers and keep your account, do Step 2 only.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Keep a valid card on file. A payment method is required at all times, so the last valid card on your account can’t be removed. Manage cards on Account → Billing.
- Only an owner can cancel. Port-outs can be done by an owner or a user with the Release / Port-out Numbers permission.
Step 1: export your data
Section titled “Step 1: export your data”Download what you want to keep while you still have full access:
- Account data: Account → Settings → Privacy → Data export requests a ZIP of your account data. You get an email when it’s ready. See Account Settings.
- Phone number list: Export as CSV on Phone Numbers.
- Text messages: see Exporting Messages if you use Flare.
Voicemails and call recordings are deleted after your account closes, so save anything you need first.
Step 2: port your numbers out
Section titled “Step 2: port your numbers out”Do this for each number you want to keep:
- Go to Account → Phone Numbers, open the number, and select the Port-out tab.
- Click Unlock. SIPSTACK shows a port-out PIN for that number, valid for 30 days.
- Give the PIN to your new carrier along with the number. Your new carrier submits the port.
- Wait until the number’s status shows Ported Out.
Your SIPSTACK service keeps working on each number until it ports, so there’s no gap in calls or texts. Once a number shows Ported Out, it is no longer billed.
Each number has its own PIN, so moving several numbers means unlocking each one. If a PIN expires before the port goes through, unlock the number again for a new one. Full details are on Number Detail → Port-out tab.
Step 3: cancel your account
Section titled “Step 3: cancel your account”When every number you want to keep shows Ported Out:
- Go to Account → Cancel Account and follow the wizard. You’ll sign the cancellation agreement at the last step.
- If any numbers are still on your account, the wizard lists them and asks you to type RELEASE to confirm. Those numbers are released after your account closes. If you want to keep one, stop here and port it first.
- A 30-day cooling-off period starts. Everything keeps working, and you can click Reactivate account at any time during it.
- On the cancellation date, your subscriptions end, your E911 addresses are removed, and users lose access.
After your service ends we send a final bill for any final usage, charged to your card on file.
The full timeline (cooling-off, number grace period, data deletion) is on Cancelling Your Account.
Common questions
Section titled “Common questions”Can I cancel first and port later? Don’t. Porting is much simpler while your account is fully active, and numbers you haven’t moved are released after your account closes.
Why can’t I remove my card? A payment method is required at all times, including for your final bill. You can add a new card and then remove the old one.
My new carrier says the PIN doesn’t work. Check that you gave them the PIN for that exact number and that it hasn’t expired. If it has, unlock the number again for a new PIN. If it still fails, contact SIPSTACK support.
I changed my mind after cancelling. Click Reactivate account on Account → Cancel Account at any time during the 30-day cooling-off period.
