Can SIPSTACK Numbers Receive SMS From a Short Code?

Section titled “Can SIPSTACK Numbers Receive SMS From a Short Code?”

By default, SIPSTACK long code numbers cannot receive messages from short code numbers.

Upon request, SIPSTACK can enable your account to receive incoming messages from short codes. When enabled, all long code phone numbers on your account that are SMS-capable will be able to receive messages from short codes.

Before requesting this feature, be aware of the following:

  • Account-wide setting: The setting applies to your entire SIPSTACK account. It affects all long code (local, national, or mobile) SMS-capable numbers on that account.
  • Toll-free numbers excluded: Toll-free numbers cannot receive SMS from short codes and are not affected by this setting.
  • Same-country requirement: A short code can only send messages to long code numbers in the same country as the short code. To receive messages from a Canadian short code, you must use a Canadian SIPSTACK number. To receive from a US short code, use a US SIPSTACK number.
  • No guaranteed reach: SIPSTACK cannot guarantee that every short code globally will be able to reach SIPSTACK numbers, even with the same country. External short code carriers may not have interconnect agreements with SIPSTACK’s network.
  • No outbound replies: You cannot send outbound messages to short codes. This means you cannot reply to messages, send STOP, or send HELP back to a short code. SIPSTACK will require you to acknowledge this limitation before enabling the feature.

Contact SIPSTACK Support to request short code SMS reception for your account. Support will send a disclaimer from SIPSTACK Legal and ask you to confirm that you understand and accept the limitations above.
