Text messaging (SMS/MMS)

Text messaging, or texting, is the act of composing and sending electronic messages, typically consisting of alphabetic and numeric characters, between two or more users.
SIPSTACK supports SMS and MMS messaging through multiple channels depending on your plan and use case:
- Flare SMS — Full-featured SMS/MMS campaigns, A2P messaging, auto-responders, and analytics
- Switchboard — SMS from within your business phone portal
- Email-to-SMS — Send and receive SMS/MMS via email (legacy method)
Phone numbers are not enabled for text messaging by default. To activate messaging on a phone number, contact SIPSTACK support.
Limitations
Section titled “Limitations”- MMS sending & receiving is only available via Flare SMS or the email-to-SMS method.
- Text messaging via Switchboard requires an active SMS-enabled number on your account.
- Text messaging can only be used for P2P use cases unless you are using Flare SMS for A2P campaigns.
