Data Retention

← Regulatory

This article outlines data retention periods by plan tier. Please read the SIPSTACK Privacy Policy for full details on how data is handled.

Storage retention refers to the maximum amount of time the following types of records are stored on SIPSTACK’s infrastructure within a given region:

  • Call logs
  • Call recordings
  • Voicemails
  • SMS / MMS messages

Stored data is automatically purged at the maximum interval for your plan. Some data can be removed on demand or set to a shorter retention period upon account holder request.

Enterprise plan subscribers benefit from private, offsite, or on-premise dedicated hosting options. This allows data to be stored independently within a customer-specified location or geographic region. The maximum retention period cannot exceed the plan limit, but can be adjusted to a shorter period upon request.

When SIPSTACK services send content via email — such as voicemail-to-email, fax-to-email, or SMS-to-email — the content is transmitted over a secure TLS connection to SIPSTACK’s transactional SMTP relay.

Emails are typically delivered immediately. If a destination mail server is temporarily unavailable, the email and its content are held on SIPSTACK’s transactional servers for a maximum of 7 days, with retry attempts every 5 minutes. After 7 days, undeliverable emails are purged. The delivery attempt log — which contains only dates, times, sender, recipient address, and delivery codes — is preserved. Message subjects, body content, and attachments are fully purged.

SIPSTACK operates regional transactional email relays in both Canada and the United States. Email originating from a host within a given region is relayed only through a server within the same borders.
