Cisco Linksys SPA Phone Date/Time Incorrect
On Cisco Linksys SPA series phones (SPA303, SPA504G, SPA508G, SPA514G, etc.), the date and time may display incorrectly even when an NTP server is configured. The phone syncs with NTP but then applies the wrong timezone offset or fails to account for daylight saving time (DST).
Root cause: The phone’s TFTP provisioning script does not include timezone or DST rules, so the phone cannot convert UTC from the NTP server to your local time.
Fix: Add Timezone and DST Rules to the TFTP Config
Section titled “Fix: Add Timezone and DST Rules to the TFTP Config”Add the following XML parameters to the phone’s TFTP config file. Adjust the Time_Zone value to match your timezone.
<Set_Local_Date__mm_dd_ ua="na"></Set_Local_Date__mm_dd_><Set_Local_Time__HH_mm_ ua="na"></Set_Local_Time__HH_mm_><Time_Zone ua="na">GMT-05:00</Time_Zone><Daylight_Saving_Time_Rule ua="na">start=3/-14/7/2:0:0;end=11/1/7/2:0:0;save=1</Daylight_Saving_Time_Rule>Common timezone values:
| Timezone | Value |
|---|---|
| Eastern (UTC−5/−4) | GMT-05:00 |
| Central (UTC−6/−5) | GMT-06:00 |
| Mountain (UTC−7/−6) | GMT-07:00 |
| Pacific (UTC−8/−7) | GMT-08:00 |
| Atlantic / Halifax (UTC−4/−3) | GMT-04:00 |
The DST rule shown (start=3/-14/7/2:0:0;end=11/1/7/2:0:0;save=1) is correct for North American DST (second Sunday in March through first Sunday in November).
After Updating the Config File
Section titled “After Updating the Config File”- Save the updated TFTP config file.
- Reboot the phone — press Menu > Admin Login > Advanced > Reboot, or unplug and re-plug the ethernet cable.
- Allow 60 seconds for the phone to boot, pull its config, and sync with NTP.
- The date and time should now display correctly.
Note: If SIPSTACK manages your phone provisioning, contact SIPSTACK support to request the timezone correction. Do not edit provisioning files directly on SIPSTACK-managed phones.
