Polycom Handset Falls Off Hook

← Troubleshooting

If the handset on your Polycom phone slides off the cradle easily, the handset retaining tab is in the wrong position. Switching it takes under a minute and requires no tools.

The handset cord has a small plastic tab that clips into the cradle. This tab can be set in two positions:

  • Down position — Standard orientation for most desk setups
  • Up position — Locks the handset more securely into the cradle (recommended)

To switch positions:

  1. Remove the handset from the cradle.
  2. Locate the small plastic tab where the handset cord exits the cradle slot.
  3. Press the tab and slide it to the up position.
  4. Replace the handset — it should now seat firmly and not slide off.

SIPSTACK recommends keeping the tab in the up position for a more secure handset fit.

If the handset still does not seat correctly after adjusting the tab, the cradle may be worn. Contact SIPSTACK support for a replacement assessment.
