How to Install a Polycom VVX Expansion Module (Sidecar)
Section titled “How to Install a Polycom VVX Expansion Module (Sidecar)”The Polycom VVX Expansion Module adds additional line appearances and speed dial keys to VVX series phones. It is commonly used by receptionists and administrative staff who manage a high volume of calls.
Prerequisites
Section titled “Prerequisites”- A compatible Polycom VVX series phone
- A Polycom VVX Expansion Module
- The interface cable (included with the module)
Installation Steps
Section titled “Installation Steps”Step 1: Unpack the Module
Section titled “Step 1: Unpack the Module”Remove the expansion module from its packaging and verify that the interface cable is included.
Step 2: Power Off the Phone
Section titled “Step 2: Power Off the Phone”Power off the Polycom VVX phone before connecting the expansion module to avoid electrical issues during installation.
Step 3: Connect the Module
Section titled “Step 3: Connect the Module”- Locate the Aux port on the side of the Polycom VVX phone.
- Connect one end of the interface cable to the Aux port on the phone.
- Connect the other end to the expansion module.
Step 4: Secure the Module
Section titled “Step 4: Secure the Module”If your phone and module include mounting hardware, use it to attach the module to the side of the phone. This stabilizes the combined unit on your desk.
Step 5: Power On the Phone
Section titled “Step 5: Power On the Phone”Power on the phone. It will detect the expansion module and begin the initialization process automatically.
Step 6: Verify the Module
Section titled “Step 6: Verify the Module”After the phone boots, check the expansion module’s lights and display. You may see indicator lights flash briefly as the module is recognized.
Step 7: Configure Line Keys (If Required)
Section titled “Step 7: Configure Line Keys (If Required)”Depending on your needs, configure the keys on the expansion module through:
- The phone’s on-screen interface, or
- The phone’s web configuration utility (accessed by entering the phone’s IP address in a browser)
Line keys can be assigned as BLF monitors, speed dials, or additional line appearances.
Step 8: Test
Section titled “Step 8: Test”Press a key on the expansion module to verify it works as expected. Make a test call if applicable.
Troubleshooting
