Send and Receive Text Messages via Email (SMS/MMS)
Section titled “Send and Receive Text Messages via Email (SMS/MMS)”SIPSTACK supports SMS/MMS text messaging through your email client. When enabled on your account, incoming text messages are delivered to your email inbox, and you can reply directly from email to respond.
Receiving Text Messages by Email
Section titled “Receiving Text Messages by Email”Once your phone number is enabled for SMS-to-email, incoming text messages are automatically delivered to the email address linked to your voicemail and direct phone number (DID). No additional setup is required.
- Reply to the email to send a text message back to the sender.
- Group messages may arrive with multiple phone numbers in the subject line. You can reply to all (up to 10 recipients) or reply to a single number.
Sending a Text Message by Email
Section titled “Sending a Text Message by Email”To send a new SMS or MMS from your email client:

Open your email application and compose a new message.

In the To: field, enter:
msg+<your-phone-number>@<system-domain>.sipstack.netReplace
<your-phone-number>with your SIPSTACK number including country code (e.g.,18005554444), and<system-domain>with the domain provided by SIPSTACK Support. -
In the Subject: field, enter the destination phone number including country code (e.g.,
14165554444). -
Write your message in the email body.

Send the email.
Setting Up Permissions
Section titled “Setting Up Permissions”To activate SMS-to-email, you need:
- A valid email address linked to your voicemail
- An assigned direct phone number (DID) with SMS capability
If you send a test message to your number and receive no email (check your junk folder too), contact SIPSTACK Support or your PBX administrator to enable the feature.
