Why Are My MMS Messages Being Sent as SMS?
Why Are My MMS Messages Being Sent as SMS?
Section titled “Why Are My MMS Messages Being Sent as SMS?”When you send an MMS from a SIPSTACK MMS-enabled number to a recipient on a carrier that does not support MMS, SIPSTACK automatically converts the message to an SMS. The media file is hosted and a shortened URL is appended to the message body, linking the recipient to your media content.
This behavior applies to:
- International carriers that do not support MMS
- Unsupported carriers within Canada and the US
The converted message is charged at the SMS rate rather than the MMS rate, and it still carries a unique SIPSTACK Message ID.
MMS Converter
Section titled “MMS Converter”This automatic conversion feature is called MMS Converter, and it is enabled by default on all SIPSTACK accounts.
With MMS Converter enabled (default)
Section titled “With MMS Converter enabled (default)”SIPSTACK converts the MMS to an SMS with a URL. The recipient receives a text message with a link to your media rather than an inline attachment.
With MMS Converter disabled
Section titled “With MMS Converter disabled”SIPSTACK will no longer convert MMS messages to SMS for unsupported carriers. Instead, your application will receive an HTTP 400 response when you attempt to send an MMS to a carrier that does not support it.
To disable MMS Converter on your account, contact SIPSTACK Support.
