Sending and Receiving MMS Messages

← General

You can use an MMS-enabled SIPSTACK long code phone number to send and receive MMS messages in Canada and the US.

For a full list of file types accepted by SIPSTACK MMS, see What MMS Content Types Does SIPSTACK Support?

When you send an MMS from a SIPSTACK MMS-enabled number, the message is delivered to the recipient’s carrier. If the recipient’s carrier does not support MMS, SIPSTACK automatically converts the message to an SMS containing a short URL that links to your media. This conversion applies to:

  • International carriers
  • Unsupported carriers in Canada and the US

Converted messages are charged at the SMS rate rather than the MMS rate.

If you own an MMS-enabled SIPSTACK phone number, you can receive MMS messages from long code phone numbers in Canada and the US. Ensure your number is configured to receive messages and that an inbound webhook URL is set.
